Many utilitarians would like a number to use evaluate the moral impact of actions that affect animals. However, there is great disagreement among scholars involved with animal ethics, both about how much different animals can suffer and suffering morally matters. To illustrate this uncertainty, while showing as proof concept it may be possible produce useful estimates in spite it, we ran Monte Carlo simulation samples ranges major viewpoints hold field, show spread uncertainty for should treat six representative animals: crickets, salmon, chickens, pigs, cows, elephants. The results very large, 90% confidence interval ranging between an having no value being valued human being.
